Dear Readers, in my Europa League summary I write short statements about the games that were recently played in Europe‘s 2nd best international competition. I quite enjoy the Europa League because the matches take place on thursdays. Perfect preparation for the weekend. This time it´s all about the quarter finals.
Chelsea-Slavia Prague (4:3)
After 17 minutes no one would have thoght that the team from Praha would play any role in tonights game. Chelsea had already scored 3! Right, 3 goals in 17 minutes gametime. A brilliant header secured at least one goal back for Slavia. Then Pedro directly made it 4:1. 4:1 was the half time result. 2 beautiful longshots by the man himself Ševčík nearly turned that game around. It ended as a 4:3 victory for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Valencia-Villarreal (2:0)
Rainy times in Spain, especially for Villarreal. The team from east spain has had a rough season up until this point. They are fighting to stay in LaLiga. Defensively Villarreal got 5 goals in two games. Not a good statistic at all. If you don‘t use the chances you get in front of goal it doesn‘t get easier too. The left back Toni Lito scored the first goal in the 13th minute after a solid combination and Dani Parejo scored the second goal. His freekick luckily deflected off a defender.
Eintracht Frankfurt-Benfica Lisbon (2:0)
Eintracht Frankfurt had a huge mission. The 4-2 loss in Lisbon was a little shock for the team of the Austrian Coach Adi Hütter but everybody knew that it was possible at their home game. Many many fans came to support the team. The choreography was stunning. And there was only one team playing. After a big fight Frankfurt won 2:0. Kostic and Rode scored the goals.
Napoli-Arsenal (0-1)
Arsenal did not have their best of days. Napoli was trying hard to get the 2 goals back from the first game when the Italians lost at the Emirates stadium. They had chances all over the place but could not get past Petr Cech, Arsenals goalkeeper. The polish striker Milik scored, but he was offside. In the 35th minute Alexandre Lacazette stepped up for a freekick and made it 1-0 for Arsenal. What a brilliant finish this was. The game was kind of dead in the second half. Arsenal mainly concentrated on defending. There were no more big highlights in this game.
